Scott Vaughan

Scott’s dual company commitments reflect his wealth of experience in both our engineering and business sides.

As Project Director – Geotechnical, he applies his significant expertise in geotechnical, civil and water resources engineering across Riley.

Focus areas include:
• forensic investigations related to geotechnical failures/losses and assessing remedial options
• expert evidence
• investigating and assessing stability improvement measures for land and infrastructure
• dam safety, monitoring and surveillance
• geotechnical and civil aspects of wind farm developments.

A proven leader and keen mentor of junior staff, Scott shares his knowledge by guiding individuals through on-the-job coaching.

In his Riley career, Scott has been instrumental in developing all aspects of the business and over 17 years to 2020 held the roles of General Manager and Managing Director while maintaining significant project and technical input. Following the Canterbury earthquakes he led Riley’s geotechnical inputs for a large insurer for five years.

Scott was also Business Operations Manager from 2021 to 2023, providing strategic direction and overseeing day-to-day operations. Committed to implementing, reviewing, evaluating and improving our objectives and policies around quality assurance.

OUTSIDE WORK: Scott likes to keep active – cycling, running, fishing, diving and any other activity on water.
