RILEY has extensive experience in foundations, earthworks and stability investigations. Specialist advice has been provided for sites with diverse soil types ranging from peat swamps and estuarine muds to high strength rock. Foundations and stability assessment requires the selection of appropriate investigation techniques specific to each site. The consultancy pride itself on its ability to develop innovative design solutions for sites with difficult ground conditions. Project include stabilisation of large landslides, dam site investigations and forensic investigation services. The rehabilitation of unstable slopes is a particular area of expertise. the scale of projects has ranged from small slope failures of a few cubic metres to large landslides covering many square kilometres. |

RILEY is recognised for the design and implementation of infrastructure for difficult sites. This includes sites with both challenging geotechnical and stormwater disposal requirements. More stringent development requirements and land constraints have placed significant emphasis on this aspect of development. The consultancy provides expert input in both geotechnical and stormwater management which is utilised on many land development projects. Civil contracts often include the design, contract administration and supervision of subdivisional services such as access, retaining walls and reticulation services. These skills have also been applied to a number of major infrastructure projects for local and regional councils. RILEY has considerable experience and knowledge of coastal processes. Projects have ranged fromt he design of stormwater outfall structures, investigation and design of large scale beach reinstatement works, studies into the mechanisms of coastal dynamics, shorelineerosion and sea-cliff retreat. Remedial measures are designed to achieve reduced erosion loading and to enhance the rate of sand deposition. |
Water resource capabilities include specialist skills in the site selection, investigation and design of dams and hydro-electric facilities. RILEY conducts hydrological studies to determine catchment yields, flood assessments and scheme optimisation.
RILEY has completed safety evaluations on more than 50 dams throughout New Zealand including earthfill detention dams, concrete gravity dams and concrete arch dams. Where required, remedial measures are designed to overcome safety deficiencies and meet modern standards. Our water resources staff include experienced dam engineers and hydrologists. Commissions are undertaken following current world best practice.
Hydraulic modelling expertise includes modelling of diverse structures such as detention basins, pipe networks and culverts.
