| To assist farm irrigation, Highbank pump station, near Methven, Canterbury, recently started pumping water from the Rakaia River. The pump station, owned by TrustPower Ltd, was constructed over a period of nine months with completion in December 2010. The scheme is able to make use of spare water from the Rangitata Diversion Race Scheme but this was the first time conditions have required operation of the pump station to provide additional water for irrigation. RILEY was initially commissioned to undertake civil and geotechnical design work for the scheme and then, as Engineer's Representative, to manage contract document preparation; contract administration; undertake site inspections; and chair site meetings. Geotechnical and civil input was provided in respect of the sediment pond; infiltration gallery; intake structure; fish pass; and retaining walls around the bifurcation penstock. |
