Oscar joined Riley in 2018 and later graduated from the University of Auckland with First Class Honours, completing a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil Engineering) alongside a Bachelor of Science majoring in Geography. A keen sailor and wing foiler, Oscar has a particular passion for water resources engineering and the intersection between engineering and geography.
Oscar has experience applying a wide range of hydrological and hydraulic modelling tools to support the design of hydraulic structures, including dams, bridges, stopbanks and culverts, as well as flood risk management projects. His expertise includes:
• Physical and numerical hydraulic modelling
• Hydrological and weather modelling
Oscar has developed particular expertise in deriving extreme rainfall scenarios, including Probable Maximum Precipitation (PMP) estimates for New Zealand. He recently led and completed a nationwide study to update the methodologies used to estimate these scenarios, incorporating the latest climate change considerations and future rainfall projections.
